There is a common saying that running is a simple sport. It involves putting one foot in front of the other. However, there are many ways of doing this and if running involves running over long distances then it becomes increasingly important that we move efficiently and prevent over usage injuries. Running technique is important!

Running Technique vs. Running Style

Everybody has a different unique interpretation of running. Some lean forward, others backwards, some heel strike and others run on the forefoot, some have little to no arm action. Everybody believes that their own natural way of running is best for them. With time and increased training the first injuries usually appear, a stress fracture, Achilles pain etc. Very often the root cause of those injuries are down to our own bio-mechanical flaws.

Running Technique Assessment

Running Technique Assessment

During the last 10 years a lot has been written about running technique and the various ‘school’s of running’. Alexander Technique, Chi Running, Pose, etc. you name it. Each of these have introduced their own branded products – often expensive – and their own philosophy of how running technique can be taught. When it comes to running technique assessment or gait analysis the main focus is often on th foot strike only or the runners is recorded in a stationary (i.e. treadmill) environment.  In contrary to this movement, RunUrban believes that good running technique is based around a number of key principles and can be coached by using video analysis and feedback. Coach and coachee together will review the coachee’s running to maximise the learning effect.
